About

The Friends of the Cedar River Watershed (FCRW) is a private, non-profit organization incorporated in 1996 and dedicated to the protection and restoration of the Cedar River Watershed.

The Cedar River plays many roles in our lives whether that means providing water, wildlife habitat, or enjoyment. Threatened Chinook salmon, native Silver salmon and hatchery Sockeye salmon live and spawn in the Cedar River. Maintaining salmon habitat goes hand-in-hand with ensuring great water quality for the 2/3 of King Country residents and business that draw water from the river. Amazingly, even after we draw over one hundred million gallons a day from the Cedar River, there is still enough water left to fill over half of Lake Washington to keep the floating bridges afloat and provide all of the water necessary to operate the Ballard Locks.

Beyond the services that the Cedar River provides us, it has a fundamental natural beauty that draws people to the Puget Sound region. We strive to inspire conservation and protection of a healthy and breathtaking Cedar River Watershed through restoration, education, and stewardship.
